We concluded the 2-day inaugural East African Regional Nephropathology Workshop that brought together Nephrologists and Pathologists under the auspices of the The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the Kenya Renal Association .
The theme for this inaugural workshop held at Aga Khan University Auditorium in Nairobi was EMERGING TRENDS & CLINICAL INSIGHTS IN NEPHROPATHOLOGY, where the combined clinical and pathological talks and case based discussions focused on practical issues and pointers on the various renal conditions particularly glomerular diseases and systemic diseases affecting the kidneys.
Speakers at the inaugural workshop included Prof Wesam Ismail world-renowned renal pathologist from Cairo Egypt who is the immediate former ISN Renal Pathology Working Group Chairperson as well as visiting speakers from Ethiopia and Tanzania, with a host of participants joining remotely from across the region.
The convenors of the inaugural East African Regional Nephropathology Workshop include Dr Ahmed Twahir (nephrologist) who led the organizing committee, Prof Ahmed Sokhwala (nephrologist) together with Annastacia Mbithi (administrator) who was our host at Aga Khan University, Dr Mary Kubo the organizing secretary and Dr Ahmed Kalebi (local renal pathology lead and member of the ISN Renal Pathology Working Group 2019-2024).
The next workshop planned for 2025 will dwell on kidney transplant biopsies and related conditions including virological and immunopathological diseases.
